Help Us Bring Death with Dignity to New England

"As Governor, I will strongly champion death with dignity legislation. I have been a sponsor of this legislation for multiple years and I have a track record of bringing people together to get tough things done." -Peter Shumlin, Democratic gubernatorial candidate for Vermont

Oregon Death with Dignity Political Fund is working together with Patient Choices at End of Life – Vermont to make Death with Dignity legislation a reality in 2011. The partnership is contingent on one significant factor—the election of the Democratic candidate for governor: Peter Shumlin.

Vermont was close to passing a Death with Dignity law in 2007 and 2009. However, the sitting governor, Jim Douglas, threatened a veto each time, and squashed the hope of real legislation during his stint. With Douglas' retirement and a true Death with Dignity advocate poised to win his seat, Vermont has never been closer to becoming the third state with a Death with Dignity law on the books.
